It is wonderful to hear that people are excited about this plugin!  But this will be a long development road.  However, we plan to release some more info within the next 4-6 weeks.  Stay tuned!

Can't wait for the release.  Would love to beta test if possible.

Is any connectivity with RISA 3d planned?  That would be a huge help for us, if so.

Hi Larry - I've never heard of RISA until now but we'll definitely look into this. One of our goals for this product is to be able to easily exchange data between various platforms.

Massimiliano - great to hear the excitement! (but I hope you are a patient person)

I don't see any mention of stairs, handrails, guardrails, cage ladders, joists, cold formed sections and cold form metal studs...etc.

Do you plan on adding these features in the future?

Hi Larry - I think there is potential to add all of those items in the future.  For the initial release, we hope to include handrails, guardrails, and joists.  Maybe even cold formed steel as well.

Stairs and ladders will probably be added at some point but may not make it into the first release.

Thank you for your reply.  I'll continue to use PB3 for those things until they are implemented.

    Dale:

I hope I'm not out of line here, but below you will find a list of feature requests that would help us in our daily workflows. Our workflow consists of a back and forth between Risa3d and SU then finally either taking the final SU model and importing into cad to cut sections and develop plans or just redrawing everything from scratch. Its far from perfect but it's ours.

    Feature requests:

    1. A bi-directional link between Decasteel and Risa3d. Currently we must export from SU to dxf and then into Risa3d for analysis. No member mapping takes place during this it is strictly a stick frame model. Members must be assigned each time the process takes place. Any intelligence between the two applications would be an improvement.

    2. When importing a Sketchup model into autocad the rounds or (k) in any view (sections, plans and details) shows facet lines. Cleaning these up is a nightmare of a job. The ability to turn the (k) on or off, or work with a simplified squared off section would be beneficial. This would also serve to speed up SketchUP on larger models while still working in SU.

    3. A one way directional link of placing a DECAsteel model in Autocad, or its verticals, and that model staying updated with the SU/DECAsteel model. Somewhat covered in item 2 above, just automates the process.

    4. An option to toggle beam gauge lines on or off as modeling aids.

Something to think about. If you would like to discuss this further please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

    Thank you.

Hi Larry - these are awesome requests.  Thanks!  I look forward to future collaboration with you. I am not very familiar with Risa3D.  Is it mainly used for analysis?  Does it have a lot of users?  We would like to support bi-directional linking between the top 2-3 structural analysis applications but I need to do some more research to see if Risa would fall in that category.

    Hi Dale,

What about SAP2000? Will be a connection with SAP2000?

    Thank you.

I have no idea to the ranking of where RISA would fall with other engineering packages.  Top3, not sure.  Top ten, probably.  Its very common here in the States, but I'm not sure how widespread it is in other countries.  I do know they provide a bi-directional link for Revit, for all other software they have a separate program that maps CIS/2 beam nomenclature to and from RISA.  I've had some success using that program with SDS/2 and no success with regards to Advance Steel.  Any connection information you've developed is lost using the mapping program.  Its not ideal.  I've provided links below to the RISA site.

I've provided a last link to our website so you can see who we are and what we do.

Please let me know if I can be of any help on this.  We're very excited to see this program come to light.

SAP2000 is one that we are definitely planning to pursue a link with.  Thanks for the RISA links.  We will look into that.
