Help needed with complex assembly
I am new to profile builder and using the trial of 3.1 on Sketchup 2020. I am trying to create an assembly of a wire fence and I am having a hard time. I already have the model put together in Sketchup and figured it would make a great assembly, but I am having issues creating a auto-assembly or even putting the assemble together. I cannot get the assembly to come together as the fence I have modeled.
Please Help. Someone

This one is very complicated but it should be possible using sub-assembly spans. First, you should get a handle on using Profile Member spans: https://youtu.be/yCNi0omUtUE
Your assembly is similar to the 'rural fence' shown in the above video but your spans are more complicated and will require sub-assembly spans.
After you have mastered that, try making your horizontal pieces from a sub-assembly span. https://youtu.be/yPw2tCnWlV0
For the sub-assembly, you would have 3 parts: the horizontal pipe, the start support bracket component and the end support bracket component. Make sure the axes of the brackets is at the center of the bracket ring.
You cannot create this assembly using auto-assemble. It is too complex. Give this a try and let me know it goes.

Hi Dale
your suggestion worked fine. I got the fence done with all the parts present. Thanks again.
I however have a question about the layout under the component tab. When layout is set to "from start", why does it always place a component at the start even if I have it set to not show at the start, when the "place component at the given spacing along the path" is selected?
Because of this i had to set my components to "from middle" to avoid this issue. With this done I have the issue of sometimes the spacing at the start and end are smaller than the spacing of the other component in between the start and end.

Whatever assembly you are working on might be causing a bug with Profile Builder: For one, the 'from smart' box should ALWAYS be automatically checked when you have layout set to 'from start' and 'place component at given spacing' is checked. There should be no way to disable it unless there was some sort of error in the program or with your assembly.
Secondly, you said that 'apply attributes' wasn't working for you in another thread, but it works fine for me on Mac so I wonder if the problem is with your particular assembly. If you could play around with the Ruby Console window open, you might see errors pop up which would indicate that there is a problem that needs to be fixed. If you see errors, please send them to me. Thanks!

I just did it again in a brand new drawing window, I uncheck max and then uncheck "place component at the given spacing along the path", then uncheck place at the start button and then recheck the "place component at the given spacing along the path", button and layout is still set to from start. with this now the component is still placed at the start of the assembly build
how can I get the component to not be placed at the start if I dont want it to. Hope the image below helps. Could this be because I am using a trial version.

Thank you for this info! I confirmed this is a bug with Profile Builder. You should not be able to disable 'place at start' in the current version if you have 'place at spacing' enabled.
In the future, we will consider adding this feature but right now it is not supposed to be possible. That's what is causing the confusion.
Thanks again for the report.

1) The workaround is simply to delete the extra un-needed components after creating the assembly.
2) Yes it is possible. We already have lots of beta testers so I cannot promise that you will be contacted when we have a new version ready. But I really appreciate your willingness to help!
