Align tool frustration

Hi Dale, 

I found align tool is almost to be a great to to reduce object move.
Can we fix one component and just make another component to target ?

Maybe please allow user to set target component object first than select another to align to the first one. 

Below is example, I would like to make center align to the main object but result both components are moved and I have to moves them back which make this tool is not useful. 

Is this is limitation of this tool or I did any thing wrong ?

  Thank for your detailed explanation of the issue and images.  

  This is a limitation of the tool.  There is no way to lock the position of one of the objects.  I hope you can still find it useful in many situations.

  At least I know this is limitation, I try to play with it but still cannot align object as I wish so I ask here.
