BIM bundle idea: detail maker
Hi Dale,
For a few projects, permit drawings for extensions, I've been setting up a workflow where I design in 3D basic elements and then draw cross sections and plans in 2D in which I do al the detailing, an approach similar to Revit. After 2D detailing is complete I alter the 3D elements to correspond with the 2D detailing.
Last weeks I've been using the Profile Builder Assemblies tool to setup up 2D assemblies for plan and cross sections and it has proven quit successful for my purposes. That started the idea of a tool that resembles the Assembly Builder and could perhaps be a good precursor to Profile & Assembly Builder and complement the BIM bundle: 'Section Maker' or 'Detail Maker' or something like that.
If your interested to hear more on this idea and my workflow and what I come across in ‘hacking’ Assembly Builder to draw 2D sections I’m happy to elaborate and send you some examples.
warm regards,
Jasper
Backstory:
In the past, I used profile builder for 3D profiles too soon in te process. While refining the design and detailing the 3D profiles made the alterations tedious. My goal nowadays, for design & permit phase, is to keep 3D elements as simple as possible, it makes for a manageable file size and with the 2D detailed cross and plan sections my Layout documents look like the local CAD standards our municipality is happy with.
