New in v4 is the ability to specify a snap length per assembly.
This is similar to the concept of SketchUp Length Snapping in your SketchUp Model Info settings. However, with Profile Builder, the snap length will be saved as an attribute to the assembly.
This feature is useful where assembly parts are only available in certain lengths.
Below, you can see that when snapping is disabled, the end component for the bike rack will always be generated at the point the mouse was clicked. Since the other parts of the assembly have fixed lengths, we need to set the snap length to ensure that the end base component will always snap and align to the proper location.
The dimensions of this assembly are such that a snap length of 2' 1" will give the desired result. Enter the snap length in the text box and be sure to click the padlock button to toggle snapping.
Here are some important things to note. When snapping is enabled:
- The Extend Tool will also use snapping
- When editing the path of an assembly, SketchUp Length Snapping will be automatically enabled and set to match the assembly snap length. After editing the path, SketchUp Length snapping will be automatically disabled.
- Snapping settings get saved with the assembly. If you save an assembly to a SKP file when snapping is enabled, the setting will be automatically enabled when you load the assembly into another model.
