New in v4 is the ability to toggle the visibility of assembly parts.
Visibility may be toggled by clicking the eye icon as noted below. In this example, the tree parts are made hidden.
When part visibility is disabled, the parts will still be generated. However, they will be hidden and can only be seen if you enable hidden objects in SketchUp (View -> Hidden Objects).
Sometimes when editing a complex assembly it is not always obvious which part you are currently editing even if it has a descriptive name. By toggling the visibility and watching the thumbnail in the assembly dialog, you can get a visual cue to confirm which part you are currently working on.
Note that the visibility settings will be saved with the assembly. If you load an assembly that has hidden parts, they will remain hidden until you toggle the visibility on.
