How to import Nearmap Point Clouds

Nearmap Point Cloud is delivered in a ZIP file containing LAS point cloud files.

Here are the steps for importing Nearmap Point Clouds using PlaceMaker.

1. Select the desired region in the PlaceMaker viewport.
2. Click the Point Clouds Tab and ensure Nearmap is the current source.
3. Click the ‘Import Point Cloud’ button to show the number of credits needed for the import.
4. Click ‘Confirm’ to order the Nearmap Point Cloud data.
5. The data will be delivered within a few minutes.
6. Once delivered, you can access the Point Cloud data from the PlaceMaker History tab.

Once the files have been processed and delivered, you can access the data from the PlaceMaker history tab. See below for specific instructions for your 3D platform.

SketchUp PlaceMaker Plugin

• Click the Nearmap Point Cloud import transaction in the history tab
• Click the Download button to download the ZIP containing the LAS point cloud files.
• A dialog will be displayed showing the transformation settings required to properly geolocate the point cloud
• Use the Trimble Scan Essentials Extension to import the LAS point cloud and set the X,Y,Z transformation

Revit PlaceMaker Plugin

• Click the Nearmap Point Cloud transaction in the history tab
• Click the Download button to download the ZIP containing the LAS files
• Convert the LAS files into RCP files using Autodesk Recap
• Link the RCP Point Cloud files in Revit to view them

Other Applications (PlaceMaker Web)

• Click the Nearmap Point Cloud transaction in the history tab
• Click the Download button to download the ZIP containing the LAS files
• Import the LAS files into your application (steps vary depending on application)
