If you are new to DECAsteel and want to get started quickly with minimal setup, use the convenient New Project command in the DECAsteel main menu.
Choosing this command allows you to select from a SketchUp template file that is already setup with your desired DECAsteel tags, materials, and components (baseplates, bolts, etc.)
There are example templates included in the DECAsteel installation, but you can create and customize your own as well. Be sure to save your custom templates (SKP files) to the Template folder defined by your Standard.
When creating a new project, you can also choose which Standard to use. But it can also be changed later if needed.
A DECAsteel Standard defines the various settings and properties to use for a project. Standards can also be customized as needed.
After selecting your Standard for the new project, you should be ready to start modeling.
If you have chosen one of DECAsteel's example templates, you will see that you already have some components, materials, and tags in your SKP file.
Here are some tips for starting a new project:
- Using the DECAsteel New Project command is optional, but it can save a lot of setup time when creating a new steel model
- Your template SKP file should already include the default tags specified in your Standard file. If they don't, you should edit your template file and add any missing tags that you plan to use.
- When you start a new project, the DECAsteel Builder dialog will 'reset' to default values. Most of the default values are defined by your Standard.
